Abu al-Abbas
n Many men had married locally
and developed regional loyalties.
n Angry at not receiving adequate
shares of booty, they revolted
when new troops were introduced.
n The rebels were led by the
Abbasid clan.
n Allied with Shi'ite and Mawali,
Abu al-Abbas defeated the
Umayyads in 750, later
assassinating most of their clan
leaders.
