Nomadic Incursions
By the mid-10th century breakaway
former provinces began to challenge
Abbasid rule.

sultans, the actual rulers.
The Seljuk Turks defeated the Buyids
in 1055 and ruled the remnants of
the Abbasid empire for two
centuries.
