â Back on the home front, Russians were starving; all of the country’s resources were going to the army.
â On March 8, 1917, thousands marched to Petrograd and demanded the overthrow of the czar. This is the beginning of the Russian Revolution.
â The czar sent troops to put down the uprising.  Many troops refused and joined the protesters.
âThe czar, Nicholas II, abdicated on March 15, 1917.
