Hawaii 

Hawaii is a place of stunning beauty. I found these islands so beautiful that I almost moved here after my first visit in the winter of 1985. That trip was my first big over-water flight.   I returned to the islands in the spring of 2009, this time visiting Kauai, the Big Island, and Maui, as well as Oahu, which  was the only island I traveled to on my first visit.

Hawaii was once an independent kingdom. (1810 - 1893) The flag was designed at the request of King Kamehameha I. It has eight stripes of white, red and blue that represent the eight main islands. The flag of Great Britain is emblazoned in the upper left corner to honor Hawaii's friendship with the British. Click here to read about Hawaii's History.
